{"id":447,"date":"2010-05-19T14:49:32","date_gmt":"2010-05-19T04:49:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.dbohs.com\/?p=447"},"modified":"2015-12-17T12:18:21","modified_gmt":"2015-12-17T02:18:21","slug":"mobile-phones-and-brain-tumours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dbohs.com\/?p=447","title":{"rendered":"Mobile phones and brain tumours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0 large study into brain  tumours and mobile phones\u00a0 by the International Agency for Research on  Cancer (IARC) INTERPHONE Study Group has just been published &#8220;<strong>Brain tumour risk in relation to mobile telephone use:  results of  the INTERPHONE international case\u2013control study<\/strong>&#8221; in the <span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>International journal of   epidemiology<\/strong> <\/span>Advance Access published on \t\t  May 17, 2010.  doi:10.1093\/ije\/dyq079. They concluded:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;Overall, no increase  in risk of glioma or meningioma<sup> <\/sup>was  observed with use of  mobile phones. There were suggestions<sup> <\/sup>of  an increased risk  of glioma at the highest exposure levels,<sup> <\/sup>but  biases and  error prevent a causal interpretation. The possible<sup> <\/sup>effects   of long-term heavy use of mobile phones require further<sup> <\/sup>investigation.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This supports most  other studies. However, the accompanying commentary by\u00a0Rodolfo Saracci  and Jonathan Samet<strong> <\/strong> notes<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<em>The tired refrain \u2018more research is  needed\u2019 fully<sup> <\/sup>applies in  this instance: without more  research the public&#8217;s<sup> <\/sup>question  about the acceptability of  cancer risk from mobile<sup> <\/sup>phones  will remain unanswered.&#8221;. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>I  saw this type of comment on mobile phone research over 20 years ago.
