{"id":1182,"date":"2015-03-23T20:30:07","date_gmt":"2015-03-23T10:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.dbohs.com\/?p=1182"},"modified":"2015-03-23T20:33:36","modified_gmt":"2015-03-23T10:33:36","slug":"hail-and-asbestos-roofs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dbohs.com\/?p=1182","title":{"rendered":"Hail and asbestos roofs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In November 2014, a massive hail storm hit Brisbane, Australia doing some AUD 1 bilion dollars of damage.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1183\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1183\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1183\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.dbohs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/hail-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ABC News\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1183\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ABC News<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tens of thousands of cars were written off (including one of mine) and hail repairs to cars will continue for a year.<\/p>\n<p>I lost 5 windows due to the high wind driving the hail horizontally. I replaced most with polycarbonate &#8211; they are now brick proof.<\/p>\n<p>The wind came from the south, and\u00a0 as solar photovoltaic panels usually face North, many were spared.<\/p>\n<p>However, many old corregated aspbestos roofs were peppered with holes and there must be hundreds of roofs being replaced under insurance. Walking around my suburb it is quite clear that the asbestos contractors know little about the hazard or their obligations under the Queensland legislation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water sprays<\/strong> were always on the ground, unused.
