Translating Blogs

I maintain a number of websites including the Rotary CLE Literacy website (it had expired and the original domain snapped up for ransom, but most of the content was retrieved from the Wayback Machine).  There has been recent interest in this literacy program from Argentina which also points to further interest from Paraguay.

As part of the revamping of the site, I added the Google translate facility using a WordPress add-in that allows the translation to some 50  languages on a page-by page basis.

It appears that automatic translation is available, using the language settings of the browser. I hope to eventually use this on all my websites. I guess sometime it will be possible to automatically translate PDF files which are often buried in websites. My solution is to use the excellent online PDF to Word facilities (I purchased the Nitro PDF Pro program) then paste the accurately formatted Word document on my websites. I still don’t really know how good the translations of website are, as I only really speak English.

A great blog on translating blogs has been written by Lorelle VanFossen.
