Circumventing Australia’s handheld laser ban

Banning a specific technology to produce a hand held light beam that can be used as a weapon creates a loophole. Lasers can be used to dazzle pilots and drivers, but they are not the only may to produce a dangerously bight beam of light.

Wicked Lasers not only produce a range of very high powered hand held lasers, but a 100 W torch that could be used in much the same way. While the beam may spread too much if aimed at pilots, it would still pose a danger to truck drivers. I have notified Australian Customs of this loophole, so it will be interesting to see how long they take to respond.
